No need to climb any steps.

Good seating arrangement is available. When you are seated inside -
Hot Sambar rice and curd rice and Hot milk is provided.
*Everything is free of cost*.

You will get two laddus for which you have to pay Rs.20/-.

For more laddus you can pay Rs. 25/- for each laddu.

From the car parking area at the exit gate of the Temple, a battery car is available to drop you at the counter of entry and vice -versa.

At the time of Darshan all other queues are stopped only Sr.Citizen Darshan is allowed without any push or pressure.

You can just come out of Darshan within 30 minutes after darshan of the Lord.

3)  Chidambaram temple is based on the Human Body having 9 Entrances denoting 9 Entrances or Openings of the body.

4) Temple roof is made of 21600 gold sheets which denotes the 21600 breaths taken by a human being every day (15 x 60 x 24 = 21600)

5) These 21600 gold sheets are fixed on the Gopuram using 72000 gold nails which denote the total no. of Nadis (Nerves) in the human body. These transfer energy to certain body parts that are invisible.

6)  Thirumoolar states that man represents the shape of Shivalingam, which represents Chidambaram which represents Sadashivam which represents HIS dance !

7) "Ponnambalam " is placed slightly tilted towards the left.  This represents our Heart.  To reach this, we need to climb 5 steps called "Panchatshara padi "
"Si, Va, Ya, Na, Ma " are the 5 Panchatshara mantras.

There are 4 pillars holding the Kanagasabha representing the 4 Vedas.

8)  Ponnambalam has 28 pillars denoting the 28 "Ahamas "as well as the 28 methods to worship Lord Shiva.  These 28 pillars support 64 +64 Roof Beams which denote the 64 Arts.  The cross beams represent the Blood Vessels running across the Human body.

9)  9 Kalasas on the Golden Roof represent the 9 types of Sakthi or Energies.

The 6 pillars at the Artha Mantapa represent the 6 types of Sashtras. 

The 18 pillars in the adjacant Mantapa represents 18 Puranams.

10) The dance of Lord Nataraja is described as Cosmic Dance by Western Scientists. 

Whatever Science is propounding now has been stated by Hinduism thousands of years ago !

_Mental invocation is better than oral _

Devotee: When I invoke the Divine Name for an hour or more I fall into a state like sleep. On waking up I recollect that my invocation has been interrupted, so I try again.

Bhagavan: ‘Like sleep’, that is right. It is the natural state. Because you now identify yourself with the ego, you look upon the natural state as something which interrupts your work. So you must have the experience repeated until you realise that it is your natural state. You will then find that the invocation is extraneous, but still it will go on automatically. Your present doubt is due to false identification of yourself with the mind that makes the invocation. Invocation really means ‘clinging to one thought to the exclusion of all others’. That is the purpose of it. It leads to absorption which ends in Self-realisation or Jnana.

D: How should I practise invocation?

B: One should not use the name of God mechanically and superficially without a feeling of devotion. When one uses the name of God one should call on Him with yearning and unreservedly surrender oneself to Him. Only after such surrender is the name of God constantly with you.

D: Isn’t mental invocation better than oral?

B: Oral incantation consists of sounds. The sounds arise from thoughts, for one must think before one expresses one’s thoughts in words. The thoughts form the mind. Therefore mental invocation is better than oral.

D: Shouldn’t we contemplate the invocation and repeat it orally also?

B: When the invocation becomes mental, where is the need for sound? On becoming mental, it becomes contemplation. Meditation, contemplation and mental invocation are the same. When thoughts cease to be promiscuous and one thought persists to the exclusion of all others, it is said to be contemplation. The object of invocation or meditation is to exclude varied thoughts and confine oneself to one thought. Then that thought too vanishes into its source, which is pure Consciousness or the Self. The mind first engages in invocation and then sinks into its own source.
This is certain: worship, incantations and meditation are performed respectively with the body, the voice and the mind and in this they are of ascending order of value. One can regard this eight-fold universe as a manifestation of God; and whatever worship is performed in it is excellent as worship of God.

The repetition aloud of His name is better than praise. Better still is its faint murmur. But the best is repetition with the mind – and that is meditation, above referred to.

Better than such broken thoughts (meditation) is its steady and continuous flow like the flow of oil or of a perennial stream.

ద్యూతం ఛలయతామస్మి తేజస్తేజస్వినామహమ్ | 
జయోఽస్మి వ్యవసాయోఽస్మి 
సత్త్వం సత్త్వవతామహమ్ || 

తా:- వంచక వ్యాపారములలో నేను జూదమును అయియున్నాను. మఱియు నేను తేజోవంతులయొక్క తేజస్సును (ప్రభావమును), (జయించువారలయొక్క) జయమును, (ప్రయత్నశీలురయొక్క) ప్రయత్నమును , (సాత్వికులయొక్క) సత్త్వగుణమును అయియున్నాను. 

వ్యాఖ్య:- ప్రపంచములోగల సమస్తపదార్థములందును, మంచివానియందుగాని, చెడ్డవానియందుగాని, భగవానుని అస్తిత్వము కలదు. వారి సాన్నిధ్యమే ప్రపంచములోని సమస్తపదార్థములకు, క్రియలకు శక్తిని ప్రసాదించుచున్నది. ఈ సత్యమును నిరూపించుటకు భగవాను డీ విభూతియోగమున కొందఱు దేవతలను, దానవులను, జంతువులను, జడపదార్థములను, కొన్ని క్రియలనుగూడ పేర్కొనెను. సంక్షేపించి చెప్పుటవలన ఒక్కొక్క తరగతికి ఒక్కొక్కటి చెప్పుకొనుచుపోయిరి. ఏ వస్తువును జూచినను, ఏ క్రియను పరికించినను అచ్చోట సాక్షాత్ భగవానునియొక్క అస్తిత్వమును భావనచేయవలెను. ఈ ఉద్దేశ్యముచేతనే జూదవిషయ మిచట ప్రస్తావింపబడినది కాని, దానిని ప్రోత్సహించవలెననిగాని, అనుసరించవలెననిగాని, అది ఉపాదేయమనిగాని అభిప్రాయము గాదు. ‘నేను మృగములలో సింహమును’ అని చెప్పినంతమాత్రమున సింహముతో ఆటలాడుకొనుమని అర్థముకాదుగదా! అట్లే ఈ జూదవిషయమున్ను  - అని గ్రహించుకొనవలయును. 
      ‘వ్యవసాయము’ అనగా ప్రయత్నము  తానని భగవానుడే పేర్కొనుటవలన మోక్షవిషయమున ప్రయత్నరహితులుగ, సోమరులుగనుండక సత్ప్రయత్నమాచరించుచుండుట శ్రేయస్కరమని తేలుచున్నది. ఎచట తేజము (ఉత్సాహము , ధైర్యము మున్నగునవి) ఉండునో, ఎచట దయయుండునో, ఎచట సత్ప్రయత్నముండునో, ఎచట సత్త్వగుణముండునో అచట తానుండునని భగవానుడు పలికిరి. కావున ఆ యా సద్గుణములను చక్కగ అలవఱచుకొనవలెను.
